Dental Crowns Erin Mills - Onyx Dental

We Can Restore Your Problem Tooth

If you have a tooth that’s damaged, chipped or cracked then it sounds like a crown may be the right solution for you. A crown provides support where there’s none left on either side due to damage done by a cavity or a natural break. This can support further prosthesis, such as a dental bridge or dental implants.

Keep reading below to learn more about dental crowns and how they can benefit you.

What Is a Dental Crown?

A crown is made up of highly durable material and is a “cap” shaped like a tooth that fits snugly over a damaged or missing tooth to restore its structure, function, and appearance. In just one visit to Onyx Dental we can restore the damaged teeth back to their former glory.

The material used in these caps is typically made out of porcelain which provides excellent durability against daily wear and it closely resembles the enamel of your teeth, which makes it a perfect option for somebody looking to restore their grin back to perfection.

Our restorative dentistry clinic can help you with all of your dental crown needs.

What to Expect from Your Dental Crown Procedure

After the dentists at Onyx Dental have assessed your teeth and diagnosed that a crown is the best option for you, the crown can then be prepared and inserted all in the same day! This is due to our in-house lab and milling system. At Onyx Dental we prepare, design and make the crown for our patients from start to finish. This means there is no need for our patients to wear a temporary crown for two weeks while we wait for the lab to make the crown.

Once we have deemed you suitable for a crown you will be seen for your crown preparation appointment. Depending on the extent of preparation and state of your tooth you may need local anesthetic to numb the area.

During the crown preparation stage your tooth will be prepared to allow for enough space for the crown to sit around your tooth. With the help of our iTero Scanner, a digital scan of the prepped tooth will be taken. In a matter of 1-2 hours, your scan will be used to design your crown and will be milled the same day. In the meantime, you can enjoy Netflix in our operatory, have a coffee or snack at our coffee bar, or run any errands you need to.

Once we have designed your crown and milled it in our in-office lab, we will be ready to cement your crown in place. In just one visit, you will be able to come in for crown preparation and leave Onyx Dental with your new crown cemented.

What to Expect After Your Procedure

How you care for your dental crowns will determine how long they last. Properly maintained dental crowns can last up to ten years or more. Typically, proper maintenance simply means brushing and flossing your teeth regularly, as you would for your natural teeth. Our dentists at Onyx Dental will give you tips for how to properly care for your crowns after your procedure.

Frequently Asked Questions

In Erin Mills, dental crown prices range from $1000 to $2400 per tooth. This price variation is caused by a number of factors, including the fact that prosthodontists (specialists) charge more than general dentists, that overhead costs and fees vary slightly between different offices, that there are different materials available for crowns, and even that lab fees differ between different labs.

To better understand how much your crown will cost, it is best to call in for a consultation to assess the best treatment options for you.

Since dental crowns are typically a cosmetic procedure, they are not generally covered by most insurance plans. However, they may be covered if the crown procedure is performed under medically necessary circumstances. The best way to know whether or not the procedure will be covered is to ask your insurance provider directly. Our representatives can give you a price estimate for your procedure which you can show to your insurance provider.

With proper care, your dental crown can last up to 15+ years. Make sure to brush and floss daily and attend checkups with us at least twice a year for preventative measures against tooth decay. If you grind your teeth or play sports then ask about creating a custom mouth guard that protects your smile!

Yes, you can eat the same day you get your crown, although we advise not chewing on the tooth for at least 24 hours. This is because throughout that period the bond will continue to solidify and get stronger. After that, you can resume eating normally and use both sides of your mouth when chewing.
Yes! A piece of ceramic used to create a crown is naturally white, but we will colour it so that it precisely matches the shade of your natural teeth. However, if you need to restore a very noticeable tooth like one of your front teeth, we involve our ceramicists to help us achieve the highest level of aesthetics for our patients. In order to assist you in selecting the ideal sort of crown, we will go over your restorative alternatives with you when you visit our office.

No, your appointment for a crown will go very smoothly. Before preparing your tooth, we will apply a local anesthetic to numb the treatment region. This guarantees that you won’t experience any pain during treatment. However, like with any dental procedure, there may be some postoperative soreness when the anesthesia wears off. We’ll discuss how to prevent this minor discomfort, which is only momentary.

Fillings are effective for treating most minor cavities. On the other hand, some cavities might be so big that they effectively hollow out your tooth. The tooth itself is a shell that cannot sustain typical daily use, even though the root may be stable. Your tooth will be filled in this situation, but it also has to be protected by a crown. A crown will also be needed if you have had a root canal that has compromised the tooth structure.
